  • The L293D allows for the control of the direction and speed of DC motors, and it can also be used to drive stepper motors.
  • It provides bidirectional control for each motor, meaning that it can drive the motors forward or backward.
  • The IC includes built-in diodes for back EMF protection, which protects the circuit from voltage spikes caused by the inductive loads of the motors.
  • It can drive motors with a continuous current of 600 mA per channel, and peak currents up to 1.2 A.
  • It operates over a wide voltage range, typically from 4.5V to 36V, which makes it versatile for different types of motors.
  • Pins 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14: Motor driver output pins.
  • Pins 4, 5, 12, 13: Supply voltage pins.
  • Pins 8, 9: Ground pins.
  • Pins 15, 16: Enable pins which control whether the motor drivers are active or not.
  • The L293D can get warm during operation, especially under high current conditions. It may require a heat sink or adequate ventilation to prevent overheating.
